The Polis government was similar to our government, yet it was very different. It was similar in that it had a democracy and people voted, and elected people to vote. Also, if you were not a citizen, you couln't vote. That makes it almost idetical to today's government. But, it is different becuase they had a king who had power.

The Polis

The polis people had a hereditary monarchy as there form of government in the beginning. They had a king and a group of counsel members that met with him. Later on the developed a democracy. Today’s government is run quite similar to the way the government was run in Greece. We both elect people to run the country and we vote for them and have our say. We also have buildings similar to the Acropolis, in the sense that they are protected and the government uses them for serious business.

In ancient Greece they all voted much like we do today.
Just a couple of days ago people (who could vote) elected our next president. Everyone in ancient Greece who was eligible- voted for their representatives too (a king).
In Present time our country has a democracy for its citizens like the ancient Greeks did for their citizens.

The Polis

The difference is that they had a king to rule over everything. The similarities are that they had a council to vote on little things and the king would decide about bigger issues. And they voted for who would become king and they were born into classes. Like the olden times. If you were a man you were born with political rights. If you were a woman you werent. And if you were an illegal immigrant you didnt have anything at all.

The Polis government was somewhat siliar to ours. They were a democracy which meant that they allowed te people to vote for they believe should rule. Yet they had kings who ruled them and the king had all the power.

The polis goverment was simular to our government because they got to vote just like us. The polis government was different to our government because the way the people were devided into different groups and if you weren't a citizenyou could not vote.

The Polis government is very similar to ours in the way that they get to vote and we get to vote. And how people who aren't citizens can't vote. And also how they have a group of council members. The USA has a group of people to give them advice and make decisions too.
But it's different because they are ruled by a king who has complete control over everything. But our president has to take everyone's opinions into consideration.

The polis goverent is similar todays government in many ways. In the polis goverenment there was a democracy where people voted. Like today people vote for who they want to win. The differences between the polis government to ours is that today we have presidents but the polis's had kings and queens.

The Polis is almost exactly like our society. They had, for one, the same type of government, a democracy. Even though it started off as a hereditary monarchy, it ended up twindling down to a democracy. They even had the seperation of classes just like our society does today ( an assumption by the following statement made in class), Basically yoou were either a citzen who could or you didn't have any rights at all or else you weren't even a citizen. And ummmm yep that's basically it!

The government of the Polis began as a hierarchical monarchy and became a democracy. Many of our ideals about government have come from the greek.
The King was counciled by a group of men much like our president is advised.
As it became a democracy there was a limit to who could vote. Unlike today, women were not allowed to vote. They had virtually no politically power. And that's only just changed recently in the USA. In just 1920, less than a 100 years ago. So only men could vote, slaves couldn't.
The meltics-foreign born were also unable to vote, much like today where onlt citizens are allowed to vote. Some things obviously haven't changed enough. Greeks were divided into social status, much like today. There were the powerful, and the ones next in line. It's really similar to today where power rules. Actually let me make a correction. We are more republic than a democracy. So hey not that common.

the polis is much like todays soceity you vote and if you don't meat the requirements to vote then you can't they vote for their kings and council members and we vote for the president and bills that need passing. it's crazy how things are the same today as they were in the past.

The Polis government was of hereditary monarchies. So a King would have a son who would become a king. They later became a democracy, which we have in the modern day. We elect new rulers every four years.

Hey Maddie, if you see this, I just want to let you know that I really wish you had explained this more. :/

The Polis' government had its similarities and differences to our government today. They're similar because they're both democracies. In both the people vote on the issues. In both their and our government only citizens can vote. But they're different because our government was always a democracy, while the Polis' was originally a hereditary monarchy. That's where there's a King and his son will eventually replace him as King. That could be argued though because the U.S. was originally ruled by England, which had a King.

THe polis were like us in a lot of ways. They started with Monarchy, We started under England's thumb, and we both eventually went democratic. Your rights then were based on where you were born (foreigners can't vote etc.) Now non-Americans can pass a citizenship test so they can vote in our elections. The only thing different was/is the level of control over the people and the title of the ruler.

The government of the Polis started out being quite different from ours. They had a hereditary monarchy which somehow transformed to a democracy. The people voted for their kings and had some what forms of representatives that the people elected.
This of course relates to our government now days, we elect our leader, the president and we have representatives form states who state the people's thoughts of their certain regein.

it was pretty similar since people got to vote on what they want.
it was a Democracy like us and it was pretty fair. teh non-citizen people could not vote very much like our society today but the big difference is that they had a king who still had power

The Polis government was pretty similar to our government, in which, we both voted, and had a democracy. If you were not a citizen, you could not vote. It was pretty much the same, except for they had a king, and we have a president.

The polis government was very much like ours. in which we both vote if you are a citizen. and also what is different was that they had a king which is more powerful than a president like we have. so there are differences and similarities with both governments.
