It also teaches Patroclos that he can be his own person. Alo that Achilles may have physical power over him but Achilles can't control what kind of person that Patroclos is.

Shows how Nestor relates to Achilles in a way. He tells a story about a battle he had gone through when he was young, and you get to see that he was an extremely strong warrior. You also get to see how Nestor found Achilles and Patroclos. To us, Achilles sounds extremely different back then than he does “now”. He was extremely eager to go into battle, unlike now. You also see what Patroclos’ duty was. He was basically sent to keep an eye on Achilles and to give him advice, but he’d forgotten that until Nestor reminded him.

The encounter between Nestor and Patroclos does more than present another glimpse of life behind the lines with Achilles and Patroclus: it also...shows that nestor is very intelligent to see that the achaeans were desperate to have achilles back and that the trojans fear achilles for his skill.

Shows that achilles is a better friend to Patrocolos. We think that nestor is only using Patrocolos because he has a lot of experience working with the Achaean army.

Nestor wants the best army and defeat the Trojans. In a way its a good friendship because Nestor is the head of the Achaean Army and since Patrocolos is helping Nestor. They would probably never betray eachother.

The encounter between Nestor and Patroclos does more than present another glimpse of life behind the lines with Achilles and Patroclus: it also... shows how awesomely smart Nestor is, because the Achaeans needed a boost in morale and Achilles still won't fight, so Nestor got Patroclus to stand in by proxy because they look alike, but we also know it backfires because of the movie clip since Hector slays Patroclus thinking he is acchiles.

Thinking about this question and reading through the book was kind of confusing but giving it some thought we came up with a plausible answer people gave Achilles advice to start the war and they are Persuading him to keep it going and to have all his warriors keep fighting. Which makes us think that someone else wanted the war to start and puts a whole new view on what we thought the book was about.

shows that they will try anything to do well in a battle. Since they want Patroclos to dress up in Achille's armor so that the Achaeans would get a boost of confidence, having a great warrior at their side. The Trojans would be fearful seeing "Achilles" join the battle and probably be easier to conquer. Especially if it was the real Achilles in his own armor, and not Patroclos...since most likely Achilles is a superior warrior.

We think you could of described your opinion more. It was a good point, but maybe if you take more time to analyze the question, it'll be better.

The encounter between Nestor and Patroclos does more than present another glimpse of life behind the lines with Achilles and Patroclus, it also gives us a glimpse of the connection between the main characters. When Nestor tells Patroclos a story, he reveals to us how Achilles and Patroclos were recruited. That’s the thing with Nestor, he’s old and wise so no you cannot contradict him. Don’t even try! Aside from the connections these people have, we also see how they interact with each other.

Comment to Mitch: we have no idea why you quoted that one disney movie about the alien thing. Seriously, just do your work.

Comment to Alex, zac, and Jon: There were 3 of you and only 2 sentances. I think you could have done more than that! jharid says i bet zac did all the work.

We think that it would also show the way that Achilles felt he was supposed to be praised like a god. He wanted, in our opinion, the achaean people to be in desperate need of him before he would actually go down and fight among his people just for the sake of his pride. When he seen the man coming in that looked like the surgeon Machoan, he thought they they weren't actually desperate enough. But we think that they were because after Nestor asked Patroclos to convince Achilles to come down and defend his people. he decides that it is better to just watch Agamemnon fail without him.

cont.
In the story Achilles is bossing Patroclos around and telling him to do his work for him. Nestor notices and tells him that he is his own person and is more powerful in the mind than Achilles is. This will help Patroclos in his life because it will open doors for patrocols to be his own person and stand up for himself. it is a basic life skill that Nestor has told him, but it is probably one of the most important skill.

shows how the men in the same camp and army where afriad of each other. Achilles told Patroclos to go see how his comrade was doing. When he got to the tnet of Nestor, Nestor seemed really relaxed and told Patroclus to sit down and have a drink. Patroclus though, seemed scared to and told him how Achilles had sent him. It seems that he is nervous about crossing Achilles.
He also talks about how Achilles is kind of mean and how so many people are scared of him. It shows how fear is installed within the different armies, even though they are supposed to be closer than brothers. Funny how a group of loyal people still have a pecking order, so to speak.

The encounter between Nestor and Patroclos does more than present another glimpse of life behind the lines with Achilles and Patroclus: it also...

Shows how they lived in luxury when they were not fighting. But, it also shows how even though you might be a higher command than someone else, they inflict fear upon their comrades. On the other hand, it also shows how they seem to gossip and talk about their comrads and what's going on. Not only that but it continues to proove how wise Nestor is and how he helps and supports his fellow Acheans, as Patroclos was not comfortable because he was somewhat fearful of Achilles, but I guess this is what keeps them all in line, fear.

To: Whitney and Jazzy

Haha, yeah you two pretty much just spelled it out. Achilles's behavior is pretty childish. He is supposed to be a great man, he should be the better person and just get over it for the sake of his fellow Achaeans.

It shows that Nestor understands how it feels to be in Achilles' position.

Nestor goes on for paragraphs, recalling his days as a warrior. He then transitions to Achilles as a lad, being eager to fight whenever he could, then to the present Achilles. He thinks that Achilles is unforgiving and selfish, asking Patroclus to go into war and renew the flame of motivation.

The encounter between Nestor and Patroclus does more than present another glimpse of life behind the lines with Achilles and Patroclus. It also shows that Patroclus can do more than just follow orders and that it shows how Achilles and Nestor are somewhat the same. Patroclus is originally just a messenger, but then Nestor tells him a long story and Patroclus leaves. Then, he sees an injured comrade and decides to help him instead of immediately rushing back to Achilles. He is rebelling in a way.

Also, it shows how Nestor and Achilles are the same. They both fight battles at a young age. Also, they both got angry, but Nestor decided to still fight. On the other hand, they are very different. Nestor decided to fight whereas Achilles is sitting on his butt being lazy.

It also goes into the fact that Patroclus is his own person. In the past books where he is mentioned, he is portrayed as a servant. When the envoy goes to try to persuade Achilles to rejoin the war, Achilles tells Patroclus to, make a dinner, get something to drink and to make a bed for the elder. Not even reluctant, he goes to begin all his work. Later, we can now infer by what nestor says that Patroclus is actually older than Achilles. Nestor also says that Patroclus should talk to Achilles for Achilles should hold respect for him.

teaches that you should listen to people who are older than you because they are wiser and have more experiences than you have. also that well achilles was more different back then like all glorious and eager to fight but now it sounds like achillies is just calming down a bit.
