oh my last question was on page 3
Commenting on Savannah Smith..
I like how you did outside research for question #3. That's really cool. Great Job. It helped me learn stuff that I didn't know before.
Commenting on Justice Mason..
You had really good answers but they were kind of hard to understand with all the spelling and grammars mistakes.
1. Herodotus said that Egyptians were religious to excess because they had a god linked to practically everything in the world. These gods helped them appeal to different things, such as getting pregnant of bitten by a snake. There was an excess of gods, that they could suit any occasion, and sometimes could even be combined. (Pg. 1)
2. The Egyptians thought that the world was surrounded by water, and that the sky was the edge of the eternal waters. The Earth (god Geb) was also thought to be separated by the air god Duat. Their other belief was that on the opposite side of Earth there was a parallel land of sorts(netherworld=Duat), which was the home to the blessed dead, devious creatures, demons, and damned souls. They also didn't know that the Earth orbited the sun, but thought the cycles of day and night were created by the sun god making a westward journey across the sky. (Pg. 1)
3. The Egyptians believed that before creation, eight gods existed in the eternal waters of Nun, in during an infinite darkness and nothingness. These eight gods represented different aspects of this watery void, and out of this void appeared a primeval mound, from which the creator god Atum came. This god then created a male/female pair of gods who started the creation of the universe. The first couple: Shu ( air god) and Tefnut (moisture) became the parents of Earth ( Geb) and sky(Nut). Geb and Nut then produced more important gods. (Pg. 2)
4. No, although there was this one time time when the emergence of the god Amun occurred, and many huge temples were built for him. He was considered a great infinite and as almost an universal god incorporating the rest of the gods. This might have been as close as they got to monotheism. (pg. 2)
5. Egyptian priest and christian pastors are similar in the way that they attend to everything from cleaning the sacred buildings to the income and expenditures. They both also form a line between the people and god(s). Priest are different than Christian pastors because they renewed the image of their gods, and ensured a hospitable home for their god by leaving a tasty meal. Pastors however serve one god, don't worry about giving materialistic things to God, and take into account to preach to the people in how to live a good life. (Pg. 3)

1. Herodotus said that the Egyptians were religious to excess because they had hundreds of gods for different things, and you could combine 2+ gods to your liking. Page 1.
2. The Egyptians believed that every special event/occurance that happened had the gods behind it.To them, there was no need to complicate it. For example, why does the sun set and rise? Because Re/Ra is making his trip westward across the Earth and back around of course!
Page 1.
3. Okay, so the universe started off as some water void, and the first god, Atum was formed from it. Then Atum made a male(Shu) and female(Tefnut), then they had two kids, who were Geb (Earth god) and Nut(Sky goddess), then they had Osiris, Isis, Seth and Nepthys. Page 2. (This really reminds me of the creation story in the book of Genesis in the Bible.)

5. Well, Christian pastors offer counseling, rituals, etc...while Egyptian priest had to do more with magic and healing. Page 3.
De'Andreah Hollowell
1. The Greek historian Herodotus said the Egyptians were “religious to excess” because they had hundreds of gods. These gods represented just about everything that happened in the world. If something happened with the weather the Egyptians would think that a god was doing it for some reason. (Pg 1)
2. The Egyptians had different ideas about the world then we do. They thought that the world was surrounded by water and that the sky was the edge of the eternal waters. They also thought that the world was separated by the air god called Shu. They believed that on the opposite side of the earth was a place with devious creatures and the dead. They thought that night and day was a result of the sun god journeying to the west across the sky. They thought that every time the sun rose, the sun god came out of the darkness below the earth and was reborn again. The Egyptians thought that everything that just naturally happened (like the sun rising) was a result of a god doing something. (pg 1)
3. The Egyptians have creation stories that explain how creation came to be. One story goes like this: Eight god existed in the eternal water of nun before creation. These eight gods represented watery voids. Then an ancient mound appeared and out of it came Atum the creator god. He made and male and female pair of gods and they started the formation of the universe we know. The first couple was Shu (air) and Tefnut (moisture) they were the parents of the earth ( Geb) and the sky (Nut). Geb and Nut were the parents of Osiris and Isis and Seth and Nepthys. This first group of the nine early gods is known as Ennead. Another version of the creation story is that the god Ptah acted as a sort of messenger. When ideas or things were said by the creator, Ptah spoke their name and turned them into reality. The people came from the god Khnum who created them on a potter’s wheel. (pg 2)
4. The god Amun was considered a great and infinite universal god who incorporated all of the other gods. And during the Amarna period, Aten was known to be superior to all of the other gods. This is as close to Monotheism as the Egyptians got. (pg 2)
5. Egyptian priests and Christian pastors are alike because they both serve as a messenger between humans and gods or God. (pg 3)

1.Why did Greek Historian Herodotus said that Egyptians were "religious to excess"?
Because the Egyptians had so many gods, some might say too many, to remember and to worship, it might seem, to an outsider, like obsessive and unnecessary effort went into their religious faith. They were very descriptive of the appearance of all of their gods and it seemed like they had a god for everything. It was almost like religion was the only thing that was important to the Egyptians and that their whole world revolved around it.
Pg. 1
2. What ideas did the Egyptians have about the world?
The Egyptians believed that their world was surrounded by water and that the air god Shu separated the earth god Geb and the sky goddess Nut. They believed that across from them was another world where the dead resided.
They also believed that the sun god made a journey across the sky and that each morning he was reborn in the east.
Pg.1
3. Explain Creationism from an Egyptian's point of view
1. The Egyptians believed that the world was created by the god Atum, who was one of the eight gods who lived in the eternal waters of Nun. Atum created two gods, male and female, who started the process of the creation of the universe. From then on the population of the gods grew until there was a group or nine gods called the Ennead.
2. The god Path, the creator of the universe, spoke the names of different things, which were then changed into reality. Khnum, the ram-headed god, created people from a potter’s wheel.
Pg.2
4. Were Egyptians ever monotheists?
No, although they did once become very close to become monotheists. The god Amun was considered as almost a worldwide god and was superior to all of the other gods. This was as close as the Egyptians ever came to becoming monotheists.
Pg.2
5. Compare an Egyptian priest to Christian pastors today.
An Egyptian priest serves many gods while a pastor only serves one. In ancient Egypt the pharaoh was said to be the supreme priest and to have the ability to talk to the gods. Today our president is not looked at as a priest and we do not think he has the power to talk to gods. In ancient Egypt the pharaoh was usually always present in the temples by statues or images of himself on the temple walls. We do not have representations of our leaders in our churches today.

-The sky was thought to be the edge of eternal waters. Represented by the goddess Nut
-Earth represented by the god Geb
-Believed that opposite to the Earth was a parallel land, a netherworld called Duat (home fo the dead and evil creatures)
p.1
3. Explain Creationism from an Egyptian's point of view
Before life began there were eight gods. Each represented something from the boundless watery void. From the void, came a primevel mound. From there came our creator Atum. Atum created a pair - male and female. And so the first couple became the parents of Geb the Earth and Nut the sky. They produced two more gods Osiris and Isis, along with Seth and Nephtyhs.

1. Herodotus said that the Egyptians were "religious to excess" because the with the Egyptians, everything had to do with the gods. Two or more gods could be combined, and the Egyptians also thought that things such as the moon, the Nile, the sun, etc. were also gods. (page 1)
2. The ideas that the Egyptians had about the world were: That the their world was surrounded by water, and the shy was the edge of the waters (represented by the goddess Nut). The god Geb = earth, and the air god was Shu. The netherworld was known as Duat (home to blessed dead, creatures, etc.) They thought that the gods did everything, never thinking if the earth ever orbited around the sun. (page 1)
3. Creationism from an Egyptian's point of view: 8 precreation gods, each one playing a role. Atum (creator god) made the first male and female gods; Shu (air) and Tefnut (moisture), were the parents of Geb (earth) and Nut (sky). Geb and Nut had 2 more gods, Osiris and Isis, and Seth and Nephthys. This was the first group of nine gods, known as the Ennead. (page 2)
4. The Egyptians were close to monotheism when Amun became the most important god, with lots of temples being built for him, but, this was as close as the Egyptians ever got. (page 2)
5. Egyptian priests are similar to Christian pastors today as they set the boundary between the god(s) and the people who follow them (page 3)

I like your answers for questions 1 and 4... For #1 you mentioned some things that they worshipped.
And for #4 you said the names of all the gods. Great Job!
1. Why Greek Historian Herodotus did say that Egyptians were "religious to excess"?
They had a god for almost everything if not everything. They had one for pregnancy and even one for getting bitten by a snake. They sometimes even had 2 gods combined or multiply gods for one subject. Page 1
2. What ideas the Egyptians had bout the world?
They thought that their world was pretty much surrounded by water (probably because of the Nile). And the sky was supposed to be the edge of eternal waters and was named Goddess Nut They also thought that on the opposite side of earth there were blessed dead, demons and damned souls. Page 1
3. Explain Creationism from an Egyptian's point of view?
They believed that there was this creation god that came out of a mound and began to make a bunch of other gods. Like first he made the male and female pair of the gods of air and moisture who became the parents of Nut and Geb. And so on and so forth. Page 2
4. Where Egyptians ever monotheists?
There are linking’s that they at one time only believed in one supreme god. So yes. Page 2
5. Compare an Egyptian priest to Christian pastors today.
A pharaoh served as the high priest the “species” between gods and regular people. There were priests at the top of the hierarchy who performed their rituals 3 times a day. They were considered very necessary to have around, especially when it came to the building of sacred temples.

1.Why did Greek Historian Herodotus said that Egyptians were "religious to excess"?
Herodotus said Egyptians were religious to excess because religion was part of everything. The sky the Moon the Sun, everything was some type of God to them. Pge. 1.
2. What ideas the Egyptians had bout the world?
The Egyptians believed that past the sky was a never ending ocean that was represented by the God Nut. They also believed Gods were behind everything in their everyday lives, like the sun, the Nile River, the Moon. Also, the Egyptians believed that there was a type of parallel world on the other side of the Earth that they called Duat. Pge. 1
3. Explain Creationism from an Egyptian's point of view
Egyptians believed that eight Gods existed in the infinite ocean that we call space. A “primeval mound” came to be in the void and out of it came the God Atum. He then created a two more Gods, Shu, the air God, and Tefnut, the water God. These two new Gods then created two more Gods, Geb, the God of Earth and Nut, the God of the sky. Then these two newest Gods created the Gods Osiris and Isis, and also the Gods Seth and Nephthys. The nine Gods all together were called the Ennead. Pge 2.
4. Where Egyptians ever monotheists?
The Egyptians were never true monotheists, but there is some belief that there was one supreme God above all the others during times. One example of this is the God Amun, who was extremely popular during the New Kingdom, which we know because of the huge temples that were built in dedication to him. Pge. 2
5. Compare an Egyptian priest to Christian pastors today.
Christian pastors were similar in ways and different in ways to Egyptian priests. Both performed ceremonies for their the people that attended them. They also have main places of worship for their followers. Egyptian priests would leave meals for their Gods at their shrines, which is something Christian pastors wouldn’t do. Christian pastors also only believe in one God, while the Egyptian priests believed in many. Pge. 3

1.Why did Greek Historian Herodotus said that Egyptians were "religious to excess"?
Page 1 Everything was religious, the river the land the crops, and everything unexplainable was caused by a certain god
2. What ideas the Egyptians had about the world?
Page 1. They thought that there was the sky above; with its sun and moon and stars, and the Earth below; not round, not floating in space, not spinning.
3. Explain Creationism from an Egyptian's point of view
Page 2. The Egyptians said that Atum was born from Nun and he created the Earth, Air, and Moisture, which created Osiris and Isis, Who created everything else.
4. Where Egyptians ever monotheists?
Page 2. No, but they came close when they worshiped Amun, the universal god that contained all other gods.
5. Compare an Egyptian priest to Christian pastors today.
Page 3. Well, both types of priests take care of the “Place of Worship”, but that’s where the similarities end. Catholic priests don’t wash, clothe, and prepare a meal for the cross or the statues of saints, do they?
1.Why did Greek Historian Herodotus said that Egyptians were "religious to excess"?
--Because they were so into their religion/s/ that their lives pretty much surrounded it.They had all kinds of gods each for something different.Page: 1; Paragraphs: 1-4
2. What ideas the Egyptians had bout the world?
--They believed that the Gods had everything to do with what happened bout the world, plain and simple. If it rained, a god was behind it. If there was a flood, a god was behind it. Anything & everything was done out of a force of god. Page: 1; Paragraph: 2
3. Explain Creationism from an Egyptian's point of view
--Before the creation of man, their were 8 gods in Nun, the eternal waters were there was "infinite darkness and nothingness". The gods represented "abstract concepts" of the eternal waters. There was this mound that appeared out of the waters and the creator god, Atum, appeared out of it. He created 2 gods, a male and female who started the formation of the universe. Shu, air, and Tefnut, moisture were the first couple and they gave birth to Geb, the Earth, and Nut, the Sky, and then Geb & Nut gave birth to couples Osiris & Isis, & Seth & Nephthys. They gave birth to the civilization of Egypt. Page 2; Section: "In The Beginning"
4. Where Egyptians ever monotheists?
--No, they could choose any gods that appealed to them and they varied throughout the situations the Egyptian was going through. Page 2; Section: "Polytheism/Monotheism" & "Pick A God, Any God..."
5. Compare an Egyptian priest to Christian pastors today.
--Ancient Egyptian Priests, were supposedly a link between gods and people. He would make sure the universe was all in order and had to conduct daily rituals. He also got statues, images on the temple walls, etc. The Priests had to perform a ritual 3xs a day, which was: Open up the shrine in the morning at a temple, bath, cloth and "renew the image of god" and then perform rituals to ensure that it is a hospitable home for god, then, leave the god something to eat. Christian pastors aren't neccessarily a "link". They help you learn how to talk to God and learn about him. They aren't really adorned like the egyptian priests were, most of them don't have statues or images plastered throughout their church. Also, most Christian Pastors don't perform rituals like the ones Egyptian Priests did. They would keep their church clean and collect/offer tithe, but nothing as drastic as the priests in Ancient Egypt. Page 3- Priestly Duties
Yasmen Wells
1.Why did Greek Historian Herodotus said that Egyptians were "religious to excess"?
The Greek Historian said that because, for the Egyptians, everything focused around religion. Everyday phenomens, I believe the article used the weather as an example, were explained by religious scenarios, such as the gods fighting or the like. (pg 1)
2. What ideas the Egyptians had about the world?
The Egyptians had many different ideas about the world. One was that the world was surrounded by water. Also, they believed that the night and the day were created by the sun god making a journey across the sky. After going beneath the Earth into darkness, the sun god was reborn in the East each day. Some ideas contradict each other. The second belief of the day and night is that the goddess Nut swallowed the sun at night and it took the 12 hours of night to work its way through her body. (page 1)
3. Explain Creationism from an Egyptian's point of view.
Before the beginning of the world, there were 8 gods that existed in the "eternal waters of Nun" in a time of darkness and nothingness. Out of the nothingness, a mound appeared. Then, a creator god appeared and was named Atum. Atum then created a boy and a girl pair of gods who began the process of the formation of the known universe. (page 2)
4. Where Egyptians ever monotheists?
Yes, when the Egyptians belived that the god Atum was a great, infinite divine presence. He was known as a somewhat universal god. (page 2)
5. Compare an Egyptian priest to Christian pastors today.
The Egyptian priest and the Christian pastor cannot be compared. They did not have rituals in front of people nor did they do one-on-one counseling. Some were thought to be knowledgable in magic and healing. (page 3)

I really liked how you responded throughly to question #1. It was true, that the Egyptians had many gods, and they all had to do with some natural phenomena. However, I don't fully agree with you on #4. The Egyptians at one point "almost"became monothesits, when they moatly worshiped the sun god, but not all the way. Good job on answering the rest of the questions though.

Question 2- I liked the way you explained what the Egyptians thought they knew about their world. I Especially liked how you listed the Gods that represented the elements like the sky and the air.
Zac Abid
1- I believe that he meant that the Egyptians were very religious and that they based their life around religion. (pg. 1)
2- Some ideas that Egyptians had about the world is that the world was surrounded with water and on the opposite side of the world there was a parallel world called Duat (pg. 1)
3-Creationism from the Egyptians point of view was that 1-there were precreation gods: Shu the air, Tenfnut moisture, Geb the earth and Nut the sky. Geb and Nut had two more gods Orisis, Isis, Seth and Nephthys. Another story is that the god Ptah spoke that people were here and people came. (pg 3)
4- No, not ALL of the Egyptians were monotheists because some tribes and specific people still worshiped more than 1 god. (pg.4)
5- I don’t belie that Egyptian priest and Christian pastors are the same because pastors today don’t use magic or offer up bodies as a living sacrifice. (pg.3)

1.He said that the Egyptians were rilgious excess because befor many civilization was really towards religion the Egyptians had been religious conscuse for thousand of years.Pg1
2. The egyptian belived that the sky was the edge of the ocean that everything including the space was reprsented by the gods,Geb( the earth) Nut (the sky) and Shu ( the air). That the suns setting was the sun god Re making his jorny in to the earth and being reborn of the east of the earth that the earth was all that exsited. They used their gods to explain the diffrent phenomenon.Pg1
3.The Egyptian believed that in the begining there were 8 precreation gods who were in a premeval variations concept of bounless watery void; out of this viod appeared a boundless mound from which emerged a creation god named Atem ,who created a male and female god who started the formation of the known universe. The 1st couple Shu and Tefnut became the parents of Geb (earth) and Nut (sky), who then produced two new gods Osiris and Isis and Seth and Nephthys. The nin early gods are none as the Ennead.Or Ptah as he spoke their they were converted intoreality. The ram headed god Khnum created people on a potters wheel.Pg2
4. The Egyptian weren't monotheists for the worshiped many gos and this means that the worshiped only one god.Pg3
5.They are similar to each other because in each of their religions they are the line between their god and the people that worships them.pg.2
Justice Mason
1.They had a god linked to or representative of nearly everything in the world.
Page 1 Paragraph 1 [&&] 2
2.They believed that their world was basically surrounded by water. The sky was supposed to be the edge of the eternal waters. The earth represented by the God Geb was seperated by the air represented as the God Shu. On the opposite of the earth was a parallel land of sorts, a netherworld known as the Duat, which was where the dead resided [&&] also it was full of damned souls, devious creautures and demons. They believed that the cycles of night and day were created by the sun god making a westward journey across the sky, After traveling beneath the Earth into the land of darkness, the sun God was triumphantly reborn each day in the east.
Page 1 Paragraph 5
3. The eight precreation gods represented various abstract concepts of this boundless watery void, Out of this void appeared a primeval mound, from which emerged a creator god by the nameof Atum. Atum the proceeded to create a male and female pair of gods who started the process of the known universe. The first couple, Shu, representing air, and Tefnut, representing moisture, became the parents of Geb [the earth], and Nut [the sky]. Artistic depictions survive showing Shu [the air] seperating Geb [the earth] from Nut [the sky]. Geb and nut, in turn produced 2 more pairs of important Gods, Osiris and Iris, along with Seth and Nephthys. That first group of nine early Gods were called the Ennead.
Page 2 Paragraph 2
4. The closest the egyptians ever got to monotheism was with emergence of the God Amun, whose cult was centered at Thebes, especially during the New Kingdom, when huge temples were built for him. Amun was considered a great, infinite, and unknowable divine presence, and he came to be perceived as almost a universal god incorporating all of the other gods.
Page 2 Paragraph 7
5. Egyptian priests are very different from Christian pastors today because the pharoah was the supreme high priests and he was supposed to do all the daily rituals but that was physically impossible because of the amount of temples throughtout the city. So he had priests associated with every temple to do the rituals, to clean the sacred buildings, to make acoounts of the temple estates, income and expenditures. Every morning they would bath, cloth and renew the image of the god and leave the god a meal. Pastors are sort of like the pharoah because they have people in every area of the church working on a different thing. The thing is Christian churches don't have temples and gods. They worship one God. They also don't ahve little images of God and don't feed and cloth him as if he were a live person sitting their with you. The pastor is in control of everything and does alot of hard work but he can't do everything he basically does certain activities for the church and supervises the rest.
